What Is Involved With Fitting A Home Charger?

When any kind of work is done in your home, there is always the question of whether it will cause any disruption to your life or your property. While you may think that installing an EV charger will get in the way of your day to day life, there is actually a lot less involved than you might imagine.

Before you can have an EV charger fitted at home, there are a couple of things that you must make sure of first. For example, you must own the property or have obtained express permission from the landlord to install the equipment. Secondly, there must be some sort of off-road parking. Finally, if you will be installing a smartplug, you must have a WiFi connection at the property. Once you have considered all of these things, it is time to look at where the charger will be installed.

There may be certain things that limit where the charger can be installed. For example, the equipment cannot be installed within 2.5 metres of a sim touch, which is simply anything metal connected with the electric supply to your home. This is something that you should keep in mind, although your installer will help you to figure this out. When you have decided on the location for your charger, you can sit back and relax, while the installation team does all the hard work for you.

On the day of the installation, the engineers will come to your home and prepare for the work. It is important to make sure that you have cleared the work area to allow the engineers to get started as soon as they arrive.

As we have mentioned, a lot of people are concerned that this process will cause disruption to their lives. The good news is that, while the power supply to the property will need to be turned off during the installation, this is about the extent of the interruptions. The installation should only take around 3 hours to complete.

Once the installation is complete, your engineers will turn the power supply back on. They will also perform tests on the charger to ensure that everything is in good working order. If you opted for a smart charger, the team will also connect this to the internet for you, so be sure to have your WiFi password to hand.

If you are unsure of anything, the team will have time to answer any of your questions once the installation is complete. They will also give you a full run-down on how to use the equipment.
