Friendly and professional service from Alan the electrical engineer. Replaced under cabinet lights in kitchen and replaced outdated PIR outside light. Clean, tidy workmanship and respectful of my property. Also spotted an issue with current fuse box which is now outdated and sent a comprehensive quote for replacement at later date. I was very happy with the care and quality of work today. Plus I was impressed with the customer service from Jordan with great communications from start to finish. Thank you!

I was quoted over £200 for a small job that ultimately cost me £80 using another electrician, but that's not what my 1 star review is for - if MJP Electrical Services want to extort customers that's up to them and I'm sure their customer base will respond accordingly. The 1 star is because I've subsequently received a reminder by both email and SMS every single day for last week badgering me to accept their quote!!

Great service from MJP in the Withywood area. They provided all the information via email and worked with me to determine the best options for what I needed. I had a new fuse board installed, 2 new sockets and all other sockets brought up to safety standard for a reasonable price. They also performed an EICR inspection and booked me in within a few days. Our electrician Daniel was very friendly and completed everything in one day and cleaned up afterward. Fantastic job all round. I would use their service again and recommend them. Edit: I returned to MJP after one of my light bulbs ripped off leaving exposed wires. They came out on the same day as an emergency to fix it. Once again, great work I would recommend

Local Emergency Electrician in Alveston:

Tackling Alveston's Common Fault Triggers

At MJP Electrical, we’re your rapid response team for urgent electrical issues in Alveston. As NICEIC registered electricians, our local expertise means we’re not just fixing faults; we understand why electrical emergencies are often more prevalent here, allowing us to diagnose and resolve them faster.

The unique characteristics of our region frequently contribute to critical electrical failures:

Older wiring and tired fittings are common in Alveston, especially where past extensions were joined onto original circuits. Signs like frequent tripping, warm or buzzing fuse boxes, cracked sockets, or lighting circuits without an earth point to ageing infrastructure that needs attention. Our NICEIC team can pinpoint the causes and prioritise the right remedial work, with Electrical Services designed to keep your property safe and future‑ready.

If you need a clear picture of condition before committing to upgrades, an inspection helps you plan spend sensibly. Landlords can stay compliant and budget ahead with a Landlords EICR, while buyers benefit from a thorough Homebuyer EICR before exchange. When a fault appears suddenly, our Emergency Electrician can make safe and restore supply; for small non-urgent snags, a tidy Quick Fix often resolves the issue on the spot.

Upgrades that deliver the most value on older installations include a modern RCBO board and targeted rewiring of brittle or under‑sized runs. We replace outdated fuse boxes with a clean, labelled Consumer Unit Replacement for better protection, and when cabling has reached the end of its life we carry out a neat, staged House Rewire to minimise disruption. Similar housing stock in Bradley Stoke and Almondsbury often needs the same measured approach, so we plan works around daily routines and keep rooms usable where possible.

When you call us for an emergency, you’re not just getting a generic technician; you’re getting an expert who understands the common failure points in Alveston’s properties, enabling faster diagnosis and more effective, lasting repairs.

When these localised challenges lead to an electrical emergency, you need a team that knows the territory. Contact MJP Electrical immediately during our operational hours (8 AM – 8 PM Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 6 PM Saturdays & Sundays) for expert diagnosis and rapid, safe resolution.

A: Our standard hourly rate is £57 per hour (plus VAT) or £28.50 (plus VAT) per half hour

A: If you have loss of power and any time you feel unsafe with the condition of any part of your electrical system.

A: Google – Always pick the one with the best reviews.

A: Every electrician hold an ECA card which proves competence and be fully qualified to 18th edition standard.

A: The simple answer is, You CAN’T. It is illegal for any person to sign off work and say he had done the work when he clearly did not. If that person is a fully fledged registered and accredited Electrician or Gas Engineer and he lies about the installation he can pretty much kiss his career goodbye.

A: Whenever an approved electrician completes any form of electrical installation work on your home, a form of certification must be provided.

Whether you’re installing a new oven, an air conditioner or replacing your switchboard or light switches, you will need a safety certificate from your approved electrician.

A: You CAN do electrical work yourself under Part P You do NOT need to get a registered electrician to verify it. For some types of work (notifiable jobs), you need to notify Buildings Control (and pay a fee) . They will then inspect the work at first and second fix.

A: From April 2013 electrical work in a dwelling, or associated with its surroundings, is notifiable to a local building control body where the work includes:

  • the installation of a new circuit, whether at low voltage (typically 230 V) or extra-low voltage); or
  • the replacement of a consumer unit (fusebox); or
  • any alteration or addition to an existing circuit in a special location*, whether at low voltage (typically 230 V) or extra-low voltage

*A special location is a room containing a bath or shower, swimming pool or a sauna heater.

An alteration or addition to an existing circuit in a room containing a bath or shower is notifiable only where carried out in the space surrounding a bath or shower.

An alteration or addition anywhere within a room containing a swimming pool or sauna heater is notifiable.

A: Since 2005, all electrical work in dwellings in England and Wales whether carried out professionally or as DIY, and whether or not the work is notifiable to a building control body (see below), must meet the requirements of Part P of the Building Regulations. In April 2013 the requirements for England were amended.

Compliance with Part P is intended to keep you and your family as safe as possible from electrical hazards.

The requirements of Part P apply to new dwellings and to any alterations or additions to the electrical installations of existing dwellings, including full or partial rewires.

Part P states that anyone carrying out electrical work in a dwelling must ensure that reasonable provision has been made in the design and installation of the electrical installations in order to protect any persons who might use, maintain or alter the electrical installation of that dwelling from fire and injury, including electric shock.

A: By law, the homeowner or landlord must be able to prove that all electrical installation work meets Part P, or they will be committing a criminal offence.

Local authorities have the power to make homeowners or landlords remove or alter any work that does not meet the requirements of the Building Regulations.

A: Things to look for are:

  1. Approved by a recognised governing body like the NICEIC
  2. Insured – NCIEC will ensure this
  3. Qualified – NCIEC will ensure this
  4. Recommendations
  5. Communication
  6. Good Attitude

A: What you do need is to get a registered electrician to verify that what you’ve done is safe apart from some “minor” jobs like changing sockets or moving them a short distance.

What you might find is that a lot of electricians won’t verify your work, so you end up having to get them to do the job.
