Friendly and professional service from Alan the electrical engineer. Replaced under cabinet lights in kitchen and replaced outdated PIR outside light. Clean, tidy workmanship and respectful of my property. Also spotted an issue with current fuse box which is now outdated and sent a comprehensive quote for replacement at later date. I was very happy with the care and quality of work today. Plus I was impressed with the customer service from Jordan with great communications from start to finish. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

I was quoted over £200 for a small job that ultimately cost me £80 using another electrician, but that's not what my 1 star review is for - if MJP Electrical Services want to extort customers that's up to them and I'm sure their customer base will respond accordingly. The 1 star is because I've subsequently received a reminder by both email and SMS every single day for last week badgering me to accept their quote!!Posted on Google![]()

Great service from MJP in the Withywood area. They provided all the information via email and worked with me to determine the best options for what I needed. I had a new fuse board installed, 2 new sockets and all other sockets brought up to safety standard for a reasonable price. They also performed an EICR inspection and booked me in within a few days. Our electrician Daniel was very friendly and completed everything in one day and cleaned up afterward. Fantastic job all round. I would use their service again and recommend them. Edit: I returned to MJP after one of my light bulbs ripped off leaving exposed wires. They came out on the same day as an emergency to fix it. Once again, great work I would recommendPosted on Google![]()

Why Install a Home EV Charger in Maesteg?
As electric vehicles become an increasingly popular choice for drivers in Maesteg. The convenience of home EV charging has become a top priority. At MJP Electrical, we specialise in the reliable and safe installation of domestic EV charging stations, ensuring your electric vehicle is always ready for your next journey. Say goodbye to public charging queues and hello to effortless overnight charging right from your driveway.
Just for a moment, imagine pulling into your driveway in Maesteg and knowing your car will be fully topped up by morning without you having to plan a trip to a public hub. It’s about making the transition to an electric vehicle as seamless as possible. Many properties here have existing setups that aren’t quite ready for the sustained load of a vehicle charger, which is why a proper assessment of your current consumer unit is usually the first practical step.
The simplest way to do this is to ensure the infrastructure is robust enough to handle the power draw without tripping your main breaker. As a NICEIC Electrician, our focus is on making sure that the installation isn’t just functional today, but safe for the years ahead. We look at things like cable routing and heat management to ensure the Home EV Charger Installation blends into your home’s existing layout while maintaining full safety compliance.

To take it a bit further, getting the right certification isn’t just a box-ticking exercise; it’s what keeps your home insurance valid and your electrical system stable. Going forward, it helps to have a setup that offers reliable speeds regardless of what other appliances are running. MJP Electrical handles the heavy lifting, providing clear pricing on the equipment and labor so you can get back to using your car as intended.

Installation varies but standard installation is around £350
The cost to charge an electric car in the UK varies between home, work and public charging. For a typical electric car with a 60kWh battery and ~200 mile range: Charging at home: Costs about £8.40 for a full charge.
To have a home charge point installed for your car you need to have:
1. Dedicated off-street parking,
2. Wi-Fi connection at your property or a SIM router with a 3G or 4G SIM (for Pod Point home chargers),
3. Permission from your landlord (if you’re renting),
4. Home in mainland Great Britain.
Time to charge an electric car can take as little as 30 minutes or up to 12 hours. The time it takes to charge depends on the size of the battery and the speed of the charging point. A typical electric car (Nissan LEAF 30kWh) takes 4 hours to charge from empty with a 7kW home charging point
The OLEV Grant, also known as Electric Vehicle Home charge Scheme (EVHS), provides £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing a home charging point and can be claimed on the majority of plug-in vehicles on today’s market. You can claim one charging per eligible vehicle and up to two charging points per household.
To qualify for OLEV’s EVHS grant, you need to have leased an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle for at least six months, or have purchased one on or after 1st October 2016 onwards. You must have off-street parking. You must install an OLEV-approved chargepoint.

All electric cars usually come with a standard charging cable (slow charger) which can plug into the car and a normal wall socket, via a domestic socket – the same kind you’d use to power a microwave or phone charger.
Office for Low Emission Vehicles
The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) is a team working across government to support the early market for ultra-low emission vehicles (ULEV).
For most of us, a few times a year. That’s when you’d want a rapid charge of under 45 minutes or so. The rest of the time, slow charging is just fine. It turns out most electric-car drivers don’t even bother to plug in every night, or necessarily to fully charge.
To qualify for the plug-in car grant, you must be purchasing a brand new qualifying electric vehicle.
- Only certain plug-in vehicles are eligible for the grant.
- The vehicle must have an electric range of at least 70 miles.
- If plug-in hybrid, the vehicle must also have combined CO2 emissions of 50g/km or less.
- This means all major full battery electric vehicles (BEVs) qualify, but few plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are eligible.
- To provide evidence of ownership of, or access to, a plug-in vehicle in order to be able to qualify for the governments subsidised funding scheme
- Off-Street parking
- Suitability of the proposed site for the installation services (the surveyor will advise on this)
- Permission from the homeowner or landlord if you don’t own the property
- If the Charging Point is to be located in a garage, the garage must be physically attached to the main building unless it has its own power supply with sufficient capacity to support your 16 amp or 32 amp rated charger
- You have not claimed for the OLEV grant prior to your application.
