Friendly and professional service from Alan the electrical engineer. Replaced under cabinet lights in kitchen and replaced outdated PIR outside light. Clean, tidy workmanship and respectful of my property. Also spotted an issue with current fuse box which is now outdated and sent a comprehensive quote for replacement at later date. I was very happy with the care and quality of work today. Plus I was impressed with the customer service from Jordan with great communications from start to finish. Thank you!

I was quoted over £200 for a small job that ultimately cost me £80 using another electrician, but that's not what my 1 star review is for - if MJP Electrical Services want to extort customers that's up to them and I'm sure their customer base will respond accordingly. The 1 star is because I've subsequently received a reminder by both email and SMS every single day for last week badgering me to accept their quote!!

Great service from MJP in the Withywood area. They provided all the information via email and worked with me to determine the best options for what I needed. I had a new fuse board installed, 2 new sockets and all other sockets brought up to safety standard for a reasonable price. They also performed an EICR inspection and booked me in within a few days. Our electrician Daniel was very friendly and completed everything in one day and cleaned up afterward. Fantastic job all round. I would use their service again and recommend them. Edit: I returned to MJP after one of my light bulbs ripped off leaving exposed wires. They came out on the same day as an emergency to fix it. Once again, great work I would recommend

Ensure Your Solar Panels Are Safe and Efficient in South Wales

Book an SICR Inspection with MJP Electrical in South Wales

Solar panels are a valuable investment, but without regular checks, their safety and efficiency can be compromised. MJP Electrical offers specialist Solar Installation Condition Reports (SICRs) for homeowners and businesses in South Wales, ensuring your solar PV system remains safe, compliant, and performing at its best.

It often begins with a nagging uncertainty about whether your rooftop setup is actually performing as it should or if it’s becoming a hidden liability. For anyone across South Wales investing in renewable energy, the transition to solar is a significant step, yet the long-term health of the hardware is what dictates your return on investment. Getting a professional eye on the system ensures that your setup hasn’t been compromised by weather wear or internal electrical stresses.

One key part of this is the Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR). Unlike a standard inspection, these reports go deep into the specific integrity of your solar arrays and inverters. As a NICEIC Registered Electrician, MJP Electrical approaches these audits with a focus on technical clarity. We look for signs of degradation, faulty connections, or components that are nearing the end of their functional life, giving you a clear picture of what needs attention now versus what can wait.

It’s really about finding the right balance between maximizing your energy production and ensuring the safety of your property. A poorly maintained system can lead to wasted energy or, in worse cases, electrical faults that affect your wider home wiring. By securing a comprehensive SICR, you gain a documented roadmap of your system’s status. We handle the technical heavy lifting, providing you with a practical assessment that protects your equipment and your peace of mind.

So overall, it makes sense to focus on preventative maintenance rather than reactive repairs. Our team understands the specific demands put on outdoor electrical infrastructure in the South Wales climate. We provide the expertise required to certify your system’s condition, making sure that your move toward sustainable energy remains a smart, secure, and efficient long-term choice for your home.

A Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) identifies any damage, deterioration, defects, or conditions that may pose a safety risk, along with recommendations for improvements to ensure the system operates safely and efficiently.

While there is no specific legal requirement for homeowners or businesses to have a Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) certificate, it is highly recommended to ensure the safety and efficiency of your solar system. Regulations such as the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) highlight the importance of taking precautions to minimise risks associated with electrical systems.

Having a SICR carried out by a qualified professional helps identify potential hazards, ensures compliance with safety standards, and provides peace of mind that your solar installation is operating safely and effectively.

Electrical installations are not immune to the process of ageing, deterioration and even general wear and tear. For this reason, an SICR should be conducted at regular intervals. British Standard BS 76719 (IET Wiring Regulations) recommends the following intervals for businesses, landlords and homeowners:

  1. Businesses – employers are recommended to have an SICR test undertaken once every five years.
  2. Buy-to-let or rented property – landlords should have an SICR test done every five years or when new tenants enter the property.
  3. Homeowners – an SICR is recommended every 10 years. If the property has a swimming pool, this should be tested once every year.

If our inspection identifies any faults, deterioration, or safety risks, the engineer will clearly explain which items require urgent attention versus those that are merely advisory. We provide transparent, fixed quotes for any recommended repairs or maintenance. Once the remedial work is completed and the system is verified as safe, we will issue a new SICR Certificate of Safety to ensure your installation remains compliant and operational.

Typically an SICR will take around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on the size of a property and the number of circuits requiring testing.

A Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) checks whether your solar system is operating safely and efficiently, identifying faults that may not be visible during a basic inspection. Common issues include damaged wiring, faulty inverters, or poor earthing, which could lead to inefficiencies, fire risks, or electrical hazards. SICR testing ensures that all components of your solar installation meet safety standards and are functioning as intended.

A visual inspection may also be carried out to provide a quick overview of your system’s condition. This includes checking for visible damage to solar panels, loose or corroded connections, and signs of overheating or wear on cables. The inspection will also assess the inverter, mounting system, and any protective devices, such as isolators, to ensure they are in good working order. Regular visual checks are recommended between full SICR tests to maintain system safety and performance.

After the SICR test is completed, the engineer will produce a detailed report. This report will highlight any damage, deterioration, or defects, as well as any components that do not meet current safety standards. If the test identifies any issues, the SICR will be classified as “unsatisfactory,” meaning remedial work is required to address the risks. The report will also categorise the issues using the following codes:

  • C1 – ‘Danger is present,’ posing an immediate risk of injury. Urgent action is required.
  • C2 – Potentially dangerous, requiring prompt remedial action.
  • C3 – Improvement is recommended. This is the only code that can appear on a report while still passing the SICR test.

Once all necessary remedial work has been completed and your system passes the inspection, you will be issued a SICR Certificate of Safety. This certificate provides peace of mind that your solar installation is safe, compliant, and operating efficiently.

While there is no specific legislation requiring homeowners, businesses, or landlords to have a Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) certificate, various laws outline the responsibilities of landlords and employers to ensure safety. For example, the Landlord and Tenant Act (1985) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) set out the duty of care landlords and employers have towards tenants and employees. Additionally, the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) require precautions to be taken to minimise the risk of injury caused by electricity used in work activities.
