Friendly and professional service from Alan the electrical engineer. Replaced under cabinet lights in kitchen and replaced outdated PIR outside light. Clean, tidy workmanship and respectful of my property. Also spotted an issue with current fuse box which is now outdated and sent a comprehensive quote for replacement at later date. I was very happy with the care and quality of work today. Plus I was impressed with the customer service from Jordan with great communications from start to finish. Thank you!Posted on Google![]()

I was quoted over £200 for a small job that ultimately cost me £80 using another electrician, but that's not what my 1 star review is for - if MJP Electrical Services want to extort customers that's up to them and I'm sure their customer base will respond accordingly. The 1 star is because I've subsequently received a reminder by both email and SMS every single day for last week badgering me to accept their quote!!Posted on Google![]()

Great service from MJP in the Withywood area. They provided all the information via email and worked with me to determine the best options for what I needed. I had a new fuse board installed, 2 new sockets and all other sockets brought up to safety standard for a reasonable price. They also performed an EICR inspection and booked me in within a few days. Our electrician Daniel was very friendly and completed everything in one day and cleaned up afterward. Fantastic job all round. I would use their service again and recommend them. Edit: I returned to MJP after one of my light bulbs ripped off leaving exposed wires. They came out on the same day as an emergency to fix it. Once again, great work I would recommendPosted on Google![]()

Ensure Your Solar Panels Are Safe and Efficient in Merthyr Tydfil
Book an SICR Inspection with MJP Electrical in Merthyr Tydfil
Solar panels are a valuable investment, but without regular checks, their safety and efficiency can be compromised. MJP Electrical offers specialist Solar Installation Condition Reports (SICRs) for homeowners and businesses in Merthyr Tydfil, ensuring your solar PV system remains safe, compliant, and performing at its best.
It’s interesting to think about how quickly environmental hardware can outpace the age of the underlying electrical infrastructure. If you have already invested in a solar array across Merthyr Tydfil, you need more than just a functioning system; you need certainty that your internal wiring can handle the load without compromising safety. A Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) acts as a deep dive into your property’s readiness, moving beyond a surface-level glance to ensure your distribution boards and cabling are actually up to the task.
And building on that, these reports are often the missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to long-term property maintenance. Instead of guessing whether your system is operating efficiently or safely, having a formal SICR provides a clear roadmap of your current status. We look at the practicalities of your setup, identifying potential bottlenecks before they turn into costly failures or safety hazards. It’s about making sure that your move toward renewable energy doesn’t create a hidden headache for your home’s primary electrical circuit.

This kind of setting calls for a high level of precision from a NICEIC Registered Electrician who understands both the nuances of solar output and standard domestic safety. MJP Electrical approaches these inspections with a focus on getting you usable, honest data. We don’t just tick a box; we provide a detailed assessment of your installation’s health so you can make informed decisions about upgrades or ongoing upkeep.
Focusing on this area can really help with peace of mind for those managing complex property portfolios or simply wanting to protect their investment. By coordinating with a professional who holds the right certifications, you get a report that stands up to scrutiny. Our team delivers clear results and tidy workmanship, ensuring that your solar journey remains safe, compliant, and structurally sound for years to come.

A Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) identifies any damage, deterioration, defects, or conditions that may pose a safety risk, along with recommendations for improvements to ensure the system operates safely and efficiently.

While there is no specific legal requirement for homeowners or businesses to have a Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) certificate, it is highly recommended to ensure the safety and efficiency of your solar system. Regulations such as the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) highlight the importance of taking precautions to minimise risks associated with electrical systems.
Having a SICR carried out by a qualified professional helps identify potential hazards, ensures compliance with safety standards, and provides peace of mind that your solar installation is operating safely and effectively.
Electrical installations are not immune to the process of ageing, deterioration and even general wear and tear. For this reason, an SICR should be conducted at regular intervals. British Standard BS 76719 (IET Wiring Regulations) recommends the following intervals for businesses, landlords and homeowners:
- Businesses – employers are recommended to have an SICR test undertaken once every five years.
- Buy-to-let or rented property – landlords should have an SICR test done every five years or when new tenants enter the property.
- Homeowners – an SICR is recommended every 10 years. If the property has a swimming pool, this should be tested once every year.
If our inspection identifies any faults, deterioration, or safety risks, the engineer will clearly explain which items require urgent attention versus those that are merely advisory. We provide transparent, fixed quotes for any recommended repairs or maintenance. Once the remedial work is completed and the system is verified as safe, we will issue a new SICR Certificate of Safety to ensure your installation remains compliant and operational.
Typically an SICR will take around 3-4 hours to complete, depending on the size of a property and the number of circuits requiring testing.
A Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) checks whether your solar system is operating safely and efficiently, identifying faults that may not be visible during a basic inspection. Common issues include damaged wiring, faulty inverters, or poor earthing, which could lead to inefficiencies, fire risks, or electrical hazards. SICR testing ensures that all components of your solar installation meet safety standards and are functioning as intended.
A visual inspection may also be carried out to provide a quick overview of your system’s condition. This includes checking for visible damage to solar panels, loose or corroded connections, and signs of overheating or wear on cables. The inspection will also assess the inverter, mounting system, and any protective devices, such as isolators, to ensure they are in good working order. Regular visual checks are recommended between full SICR tests to maintain system safety and performance.
After the SICR test is completed, the engineer will produce a detailed report. This report will highlight any damage, deterioration, or defects, as well as any components that do not meet current safety standards. If the test identifies any issues, the SICR will be classified as “unsatisfactory,” meaning remedial work is required to address the risks. The report will also categorise the issues using the following codes:
- C1 – ‘Danger is present,’ posing an immediate risk of injury. Urgent action is required.
- C2 – Potentially dangerous, requiring prompt remedial action.
- C3 – Improvement is recommended. This is the only code that can appear on a report while still passing the SICR test.
Once all necessary remedial work has been completed and your system passes the inspection, you will be issued a SICR Certificate of Safety. This certificate provides peace of mind that your solar installation is safe, compliant, and operating efficiently.
While there is no specific legislation requiring homeowners, businesses, or landlords to have a Solar Installation Condition Report (SICR) certificate, various laws outline the responsibilities of landlords and employers to ensure safety. For example, the Landlord and Tenant Act (1985) and the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) set out the duty of care landlords and employers have towards tenants and employees. Additionally, the Electricity at Work Regulations (1989) require precautions to be taken to minimise the risk of injury caused by electricity used in work activities.
